Synopsis
Omar, nicknamed «Gatlato» because of his macho attitude, is a young man who lives in a popular city in Algiers. Passionate about music, his favorite pastime is to record chaabi (Folk music) songs during evenings or Hindu film songs ... In a cassette provided by a friend, Omar heard a voice of a young girl who told him something. Awards : Silver medal, Moscow 1977 Cannes 1977 selection KARLOVYVARY 1978

Merzak Allouache was born in Algiers. He was trained at the National Institute of Cinema in Algiers. He becomes then an assistant then director of documentaries and television programs in Algeria.
Omar Gatlato was the gate for him to a successful career like The adventures of a hero (1978), Bab El Oued City (1993), Hi Cousin (1995), The Other World (2001), Chouchou (2003), Harragas (2009 ) The repentant (2012).
