SYNOPSIS
In November 2021, 26 royal treasures from the Kingdom of Dahomey returned to
Benin from Paris, looted in 1892. At the University of Abomey-Calavi, debate arose
on how to embrace these symbols of heritage and identity.

Mati Diop is a filmmaker known for her groundbreaking work in African and
diasporic cinema. Her feature debut, Atlantics (2019), won the Grand Prix at
Cannes. In 2024, her film Dahomey earned the Golden Bear at Berlinale.
