SYNOPSIS

In 1944 Senegal, a battalion of riflemen arrives at the Thiaroye transit camp to be

demobilized after fighting in Europe. Their pride as veterans turns to disillusionment

due to broken promises and military racism.

Ousmane Sembene, a key African filmmaker, is known for his political activism. His first

short, Borom Sarret, was followed by La Noire de… (1966), Black Africa’s first feature

film, winning the Golden Tanit in 1966 at the first session of Carthage Film Festival.
