Synopsis
Born in the holds of slave ships, the Bèlè drum, originating from Dahomey, accompanied the prayers of enslaved people deported to Martinique. From these chants emerged a music of resistance, a symbol of memory and freedom. Passed down by Georges to his brother Joël Lessalles, the Bèlè endures as a living and spiritual heritage of the Martinican people.
