The Gold Tanit of the Carthage Film Festival and the Afro-Arab Cinema is a long love story. Moreover, just take a look at the winners of the Festival to see how the history of African and Arab Cinema has been drawn in Carthage. Big names took part to this Festival. Films that became later classics were discovered at the Festival, evidenced by the crowded screening rooms, long lines before the screenings and passionate, sometimes stormy debates about movies. Generations of filmmakers, film lovers, journalists and film critics took part to this Festival but without the Gold Tanit lose its shine or the feature fiction films official competition lose its influence. The latter remains the flagship section of this festival to wich moviegoers turn first and who benefit from the greatest media coverage. While it is true that it is still premature to talk about the list of selected films, we can however say that this year's edition is in line with the fundamentals of the festival namely its roots in the African and Arab identity and in the same time open to new cinema and new artistic expressions.
