Film critic and director, Tahar Cheriaa is considered the father of Tunisian cinema. He founded the Carthage Film Festival in 1966.
Director, writer and Senegalese activist Ousmane Sembène was Tahar Cheriaa's life-long companion, with whom he co-founded the JCC.
