Tribute to Souleymane Cissé

Considered one of the fathers of African cinema, Malian filmmaker Souleymane Cissé (1940-2025) is being honored at the 36th edition of the Carthage Film Festival (JCC), which is paying tribute to him by screening three of his iconic films: Den Muso (1975), Finyè (1982), and Yeelen (1987), as well as hosting an exhibition dedicated to his cinematic world. The tribute to Cissé is further elevated by the presence of filmmaker Fatou Cissé, who will present her film "Hommage d’une fille à son père" (A Daughter's Tribute to Her Father), a work that traces the childhood, youth, and career of Souleymane Cissé, revealing the moments that shaped his cinematic vision and his influence on the history of African cinema.
