The first venue of the JCC, the Palmarium on Avenue de Carthage in Tunis, was affectionately referred to as 'the largest hall in North Africa.' (Today, it no longer exists and has been replaced by a Tunisian-Kuwaiti shopping center).
Surrounding Tahar Cheriaa, President of the Tunisian Federation of Film Clubs (FTCC), his executive committee included Moncef Ben Ameur, Moncef Charfeddine, Tijani Zalila, and Nouri Zanzouri, forming the first JCC team.
In the first session of the JCC in 1966, Sembène Ousmane arrived in Tunis with the actors from his film 'La Noire de'—Thérèse Mbissine Diop and Momar Nar Sene.
At the JCC in 1968, the President of the Republic, Habib Bourguiba, received festival guests, including Kuwaiti director Khaled Al Siddiq.
At the festival, Tunisian participants included a young critic, filmmaker Omar Khlifi, and the illustrious Hassiba Rochdi, a pioneer in both artful song and cinema in Tunisia and Egypt.
The jury for the 1968 JCC consisted of Paulo Emilio Salles Gomes, the founder of the Brazilian Cinémathèque, Sembène Ousmane, the French critic and writer Jean-Louis Bory, Tahar Cheriaa, and Tunisian filmmaker Noureddine Mechri.
In 1968, the JCC, a censorship-free festival, hosted the one and only exceptional screening of the film 'Renaissance' about Tunisia's struggle for independence. This documentary was commissioned by <br />Tahar Cheriaa and directed by the renowned documentarian Mario Ruspoli. However, it has been banned in Tunisia ever since due to its non-conformity with the official narrative.

A true creation of the JCC, mass cinephilia, with tickets at symbolic prices, aimed at facilitating the discovery by the general public of films without advertising and previously unknown to them.
1970 - Tahar Cheriaa and Sembène Ousmane preside over a preparatory meeting for the creation of the Pan African Federation of Filmmakers (FEPACI).
The discussions about the films, the very essence of the JCC: at the microphone is the progressive French journalist Guy Hennebelle, a critic for the Algerian newspaper Al Moudjahid. In the foreground, we can see <br />the Tunisian filmmaker Sadok ben Aîcha (Mokhtar) and the Moroccan filmmakers Mohamed Tazi and Ahmed Mesnaoui (Vaincre pour vivre).

JCC 1976. The first Tunisian Tanit d'Or, won by 'Les Ambassadeurs' directed by Naceur Ktari.
JCC 1978. Hamadi Essid, Director of the JCC, presents the program of the 2nd Colloquium on film production and distribution in African and Arab countries, advocating for the creation of a common Pan-African cinema market,<br /> with Ferid Boughedir as the designer, organizer, and rapporteur of the Colloquium.
A long-lasting friendship formed in Carthage between two of the greatest filmmakers from Sub-Saharan Africa and the Arab world: Senegalese Sembene Ousmane and Egyptian filmmaker in exile Tawfik Saleh.

JCC 1994 - Moufida Tlatli upon receiving the Tanit d'Or for her film 'The Silences of the Palace': produced, like the previous two Tunisian Tanit d'Or winners 'The Man of Ashes' in 1986 and 'Halfaouine' in 1990,<br /> by Ahmed Bahaeddine Attia, who is regarded as the producer of the golden age of Tunisian cinema.
JCC 2004 - The JCC reconnects with the Arab Star-system. Egyptian actor Omar Sharif, an international cinema legend, at the festival's opening with Tunisian Minister of Culture Abdelbaki Hermassi.
JCC 2006 - After 'Man Of Ashes' in 1986, Tunisian director Nouri Bouzid wins his second Tanit d'Or for 'Making Of'.
JCC 2008 - Tunisian producer Dora Bouchoucha becomes the first woman to take over the direction of the JCC. Here she is with Ethiopian director Haile Gerima, a legend in African cinema. 'Teza' wins the Tanit d'Or in 2008.
JCC 2010 - The audience awaits the JCC guests, who will walk down the 'Red Carpet,' a promotional novelty.
..Which becomes a 'must' for the following festival sessions...
...and which then occupies the highest cultural venue in the capital, the City Theater of Tunis.
