L’oeil du cyclone ( Burkina Faso - Fiction )

Synopsis

A rebel fighter refuses to break his silence while awaiting judgment. A young female lawyer attempts to bring him out of his mutism. At first sight, the wealthy well-educated woman and the guerrilla fighter have absolutely nothing in common. Yet they are the two sides of a same mirror. Indeed, does the former child-soldier bear full responsibility for his crimes ? Or does self-righteous society embodied by the lawyer, play a part in the events happening only a few miles away ?

Statement of intent

The Eye of the Storm tackles the subject of collusion between the state and rebels in several African countries. But it deals especially with the issue of the fate of those child soldiers who became adults in an armed conflict : after having committed so many atrocities. Will they be totally dehumanized or can they find a place in society ?

Biography

Sékou Traoré is a director and producer in Burkina Faso. He founded Abissia in 2009 and has worked with well-known African directors such as Mahamat Saleh Haroun and Abderrahman Sissako He directed three documentaries: Ismael, un exemple de courage, Une femme, des Eleveurs in 1997 and Germain, entre boites et fils de fer in 2006. He also directed a feature film, Gorel ou le Mil Promis, in 2001.
