1992 saw the birth of an original section inspired by the Rotterdam
Cinemart : «CARTHAGE FILM FESTIVAL PROJECTS WORKSHOP».
Endowed with grants for development, this Workshop served as a
steppingstone for many African and Arab talents.
Throughout the sessions, as well as the faithful contributors that
are HUBERT BALS, OIF (French speaking Organization) and the CNC
France, a number of Funds gave us their support, and we'd like to
thank them herewith.
Today, thanks to new technologies and the advent of a greater
freedom of expression conquered following the Revolutions,
talented African and Arab filmmakers were able to carry out their film
projects. If shooting and editing are relatively accessible, the film
unfortunately often halts at the stage of post-production, through
lack of means. This is why, for the session 2014, we deemed it
appropriate to privilege projects in the finishing stage rather than
scripts in development.
The Takmil Workshop, meaning «finishing» in Arabic, aims to allow
African and Arab projects in the stage of post-production to be
assessed by cinema professionals. Indeed, from December 3rd to
5th 2014, an international jury, after the viewing of selected working
copies, will offer their expertise and award post-production grants to
the most promising projects.
Five grants will thus be awarded by the Centre National de la
Cinématographie français (CNC), the Organisation Internationale de
la Francophonie (OIF), the European Union National Institutes for
Culture (EUNIC), the Arab League Educational Cultural and Scientific
Organization (ALECSO), the Arab Fund for Art and Culture (AFAC).
Furthermore, Commune Image will provide the Workshop with
works in colour grading and mixing.
We wish the participants good luck and hope to see their films on
screen next year in Carthage.
