Since 2015, the Carthage Pro industry platform of the Carthage Film Festival keeps on growing, totally in sync with the editorial line of the festival.
Its mission is to establish a connection between African and Arab filmmakers with international industry professionals through its workshops and various activities and thematic meetings. Carthage Pro is a space dedicated to creativity and the discovery of new talents. This platform has five sections: Chabaka - Takmil - Master Class - The Conference - Carthage Talks
The Chabaka coproduction workshop is positioned as the first step to the creation of a film. This workshop hosts projects at the development stage and offers them the opportunity to meet professionals to compete for development aid grants awarded by a jury.
The Takmil workshop, "Finishing" in Arabic, allows African and Arab filmmakers to present their films at the post production stage to a jury of professionals.
The Jury awards post production grants to the most promising films. Three masterclasses are on the program this year.
The first, with Tunisian composer Amine Bouhafa, winner of French César for best film music in 2015 with Timbuktu, will explain the craft of film scoring.
In the second masterclass, Mehmet Salah Haroun, director of A screaming man, Jury Prize at Cannes in 2010, will take us on the path of a creative process.
Ibrahim Al Ariss, one of the greatest film critics in the Arab world, will talk about film critique and independent African and Arab cinema.
The conference will focus this year on new methods of financing cinema, and in particular the Tax Shelter. This is an opportunity to reflect on the mechanisms of this system and the possibilities of its implementation in the region. Finally, two panels of reflection will take place within the framework of Carthage Talks. The first will analyze the relationship between producers and international vendors. The second will deal with a thorny and very relevant topic, "violence against women in movies." We look forward to welcoming you and we wish you a good festival.
