Talal Derki returns to his homeland, where he wins the trust of a radical Islamist family, sharing their daily lives for over two years. His camera focuses mainly on the children, providing an extremely rare insight into what it means to grow up with a father whose one dream is to set up an Islamic Caliphate.

Talal Derki was born in Damascus and since 2014 has been based in Berlin. He studied film directing in Athens and worked as assistant director for many feature film productions and was after 2009 a director for various Arab TV programmes.
