Thirty-five years ago I witnessed the kidnapping of someone I know; since then he has disappeared. Ten years ago I caught a glimpse of his face in the street but I was unsure whether it was him. Part of his face was missing but his features were unchanged. Yet something was different, as if it wasn’t the same person.
