Synopsis

In a small village, somewhere in Algeria, Mounir Mekbel lives with his family. Very proud and sure of himself, he only has one dream: to finally be considered as a man of merit among his fellow villagers. His Achilles’ heel is his sister Rym. She sleeps all day and all the villagers are convinced that she will remain a spinster. One night, Mounir returns to his village, drunk, and announces that he has found a rich suitor. And the organization of the ceremony begins… but without the bridegroom!


The director:

Lyes Salem was born in 1973 in Algiers. He studied at the National Conservatory for Drama in Paris and worked on films and television with Maurice Failevic, Benoît Jacquot and Hamid Krim. He directed many short films. His credits include «Lhasa», 1999, «Jean-Farès», 2001, «Cousines», 2003. «Mascarade» is his first feature film.
