Synopsis
It all happens in 48 hours in present day Cairo.
Leïla, in her 30s, hosts a radio program, «Secrets
of the Night,» where the callers confide their
love lives. She writes stories, goes to discos,
and lives with her mother and her brother.
Youssef, also in his 30s, is an anaesthetist. In
the morning he works in a respectable private
hospital and at an illegal abortion clinic at
night. Youssef loves to listen to his patients. He
also enjoys listening to Leïla’s broadcast. The
two characters will meet one day but their lives
won’t change. However, they will realize to
what extent they are alone.
Le réalisateur
Born in Cairo in 1952, Yousry
Nasrallah became a journalist in
Lebanon then collaborated with Youssef
Chahine on many films. He directed
«Une Journée avec Youssef Chahine»
(Arte, 1994). His recent films include
«A Propos des garçons, des filles et du
voile» (1995), «La Ville» (1999), «La
Porte du soleil» (2001).
