When funding the Carthage Film Festival in 1966 in the "suns of independence" in the words of the great Ivorian writer Ahmadou Kourouma, Tahar Chriaa aimed to promote film production in Africa and in the Arab world which was at that time in its infancy.
Moreover, the first sessions of the Carthage Film Festival consisted almost exclusively of first works of filmmakers who became latter andfor the most emblematic figures of african and arab cinema.
This festival has often witnessed the emergence of new experiences and new cinematic journeys, a tradition that has pushed the direction of the festival to no longer be satisfied only with a price for a first work but to devote an entire section dedicated to first works.
Feature films and documentaries from different sensibilities and belonging to various cinematic universes will compete for the Tahar Chriaa Price of the first work.
