Synopsis

December 1969, Thelonious Monk arrives in Paris. Before his concert, he recorded a program for French television. The rushes that have been preserved show us a rare, close Thelonious Monk, prey to the stereotypes from which he tries to escape.

Alain Gomis

Born of a Senegalese father and a French mother, Alain Gomis studied art history and earned a master's degree in cinematographic studies at the Sorbonne. He then led video workshops for the city of Nanterre where he produced reports, particularly on young people with an immigration background. In 2013, he won an award at the Fespaco for his film Today. In 2017, he was awarded a Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for the film Félicité. In March of the same year, he won the Etalon d'or at the 25th edition of the Fespaco.
