Synopsis

An adaptation of Ghassan Kanafani’s novel.
Return to Haifa, tells the story of Safia and Said, a Palestinian couple, forced to abandon their 5-month-old son in the city of Haifa during the 1948 Nakba. After the Six-Day War, the Israeli occupier allows Palestinian families to visit their place of origin. Safia and Said return to Haifa in the hope of finding their son.

Kassem Hawal

Kassem Hawal is an Iraqi filmmaker, novelist, essayist, theater and film critic. At the end of the 1960s, he founded with other Palestinian and Arab filmmakers, including Mustapha Abu Ali and Kais Al-Zubaïdi, the Palestinian Film Unit, a collective within the PLO. 28 short documentaries and five feature films, including the fiction “Return to Haifa”, make up the filmography of this director. He has received numerous awards and honors for his work.
